About us
Edward and Jan welcome you to their home on Exmoor “Hawkwell Farmhouse”. A delightful Devon Longhouse, situated on the edge of Exmoor National Park, parts of Hawkwell Farmhouse date back to the Doomsday era.
Extensive archeological research was carried ot on Hawkwell in 1973 and again in 2000 by the Somerset Vernacular Research Group. Hawkwell has been identified as the Doomsday Manor of Havechewelle, held by a thane named ULF.
The present Devon Longhouse is thought to date from the 16 th Century with a three room plan extended East and West from the 19 th Century.
